THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS

In 1981, in San Francisco, the smart salesman and family man Chris Gardner invested the family savings in Ostelo National bone-density scanners, an apparatus twice more expensive than x-ray with practically the same resolution. The white elephant financially breaks the family, bringing troubles to the relationship with his wife that leaves him and moves to New York. Without money and wife, but totally committed with his son Christopher, Chris sees the chance to fight for a stockbroker internship position at Dean Witter, disputing for one career in the end of six months training period without any salary with other twenty candidates. Meanwhile, homeless, he has all sorts of difficulties with his son.

Chris Gardner has big dreams for him and his family but it doesn't seem to come together for him. Chris has an opportunity to be a stock broker but first he has to go through a grueling internship which means no pay. Chris decides to do it but when his wife leaves and he is evicted, he has to take care of his son on his own. So they find themselves sometimes living on the street and struggling to get by. But Chris is determined to make it.

This movie should be a lesson for some people. I really liked the story it was somewhat sad and very touching. Will smith acted very well. Shows that if you try really hard you can accomplish your dreams.

THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL

The distinguished scientist Dr. Helen Benson (Jennifer Connelly) is face to face with an alien named Klaatu (Keanu Reeves). He is an alien who comes to Earth with the intention to understand the planet's inhabitants. Humanity represent a culture with a great mystery, a puzzle full of spare parts. With the help of a mother and her son, Klaatu finds that human civilization is more complex and inconsistent as it seems. Sadly, Klaatu realizes that people are unwilling to change, and then from outer space comes to the blue planet an ultimatum to correct the way or to face up the consequences. Now, Helen must find a way to convince the group which sent Klaatu to destroy us that earth’s inhabitants are worth. But it may be too late.

There are special effects but it does not to impress. I think it definitely fails in the end because the movie has an abrupt conclusion that doesn’t be with the story. The film is quite boring because we hope that the complex problem will be solve with a complex solution but realistic. Rather we are left with one final bit far-fetched and more questions than answers.

Something that is important is that the movie does not teach anything about the earth's problems and neither how to solve its.
